It Is All Right To Walk For A Bit
There is an urban myth, to call it that, that when running, it is better to do so without stopping for a walk at points and that walking ruins your effort. This is false as you can do it in short intervals and still get the same benefit.
You can even get better results if you’re smart about using it. If, for instance, your run takes you up a hill, walking a bit faster while going upward can be just as effective as running on a flat surface while running uphill might take too much from you and eventually make you shorten your session, which is the truly bad thing to do.
Social Running Is As Effective As Solo
Instead of going out to a café, drinking caffeine, and spending your hard-earned cash, what’s wrong with going for a run with a friend or a significant other? You’re both enjoying the company and doing something practical.
The myths about how you will lose the value of your run if you reduce your pace to fit the other person are untrue unless you are a professional athletic competitor. So, just relax, invite a friend for a run, and see how it will be even easier to do it in good company. It just might become a little quiet on the uphills.
Running Apps
Many people don’t know this, but there is an entire world of running that you can access through mobile phone applications. Some apps can give you information on popular routes where people go, or where people don’t frequently go, depending on what you’re looking for.
You can also find info on the length, the time, and the approximate results if you don’t use those smartwatches to get the figures. Incidentally, using smartwatches for running and being obsessed with the figures is not advised, even more so because interpreting figures might bring you to a wrong conclusion.
Don’t Overspend On Gear
This one is more for beginners, people new to jogging and running. When starting, people, especially women, become obsessed with their looks while they run. And, this goes double if you’re jogging through a populated area.
Understandably, you want to look good, but spending money on expensive gear will just make you reluctant to use it. Running is not a gentle sport. Besides sweat, there’s friction, rough terrain, and potential accidents that may not take a toll on you, but they will take a toll on your gear.
It is what it’s meant for. So, your reflex might be to try and save it as much as you can, which will only impede your progress. So, just go running in whatever you can find, the lighter and older the better. An old T-shirt and a worn-out pair of sneakers will give you more relaxation than you can imagine.
