We all know how love is important and how nothing else makes sense without it. But, at the same time, we see so much hate in the world, and arguably everything bad that is happening, that isn’t accidental, is a byproduct of hate.
Well then, if we all know that love is the way, why is this happening? Well, this question was posed to the late Osho, an Indian philosopher, mystic, and godman as they say, who lived in the 20th century. Osho was born in 1931 and died in 1990, and has succeeded to win the attention of the whole world with his words.
He was also named Rajneesh, which is why his movement is named the Rajneesh movement, which emphasizes free thought, rejects religious teachings as an institution, and embraces love.
Osho was interviewed all the time and often had group conversations where people can ask him questions, something like Sadhguru does today. Once, someone in the audience has asked him the question we are asking today, and that is:
If love is the right way, why is there so much hatred in the world?
Osho starts by saying that love and hate are two sides of the same coin. But, he points out that the human race has been teaching one thing for thousands of years, and that one thing is love. Love your neighbor, enemy, etc… But, people may never have suspected even what has destroyed love…
“It is the constant teaching of love that has destroyed it. Hate is still pure” – Osho
That is the premise on which Osho builds his argument. He says that when we hate, our hate still has authenticity and when we love because we’ve been thought how to love by others, it is only hypocrisy.
And, why has the human race started this teaching of love in the first place? Well, Osho explains that it was precisely because people were afraid of authentic love because authentic love is beyond our control. We are possessed by it, we are not the possessor. And society aims to possess everything it can or destroy it.
So, from the very beginning, people started cutting their own wings and this was helped by people who sought to control people as a society, because as Osho says when you love you can go even against the whole World.
