Sadhguru is being followed and listened to by many people via social media and the web. He is an Indian spiritual and yoga guru and the founder of the Isha Foundation, which acts as a yoga and ashram center in that part of the world.
His real name is Jagadish “Jaggi” Vasudev and he has been teaching yoga ever since 1982. For his contribution to social welfare, Sadhguru has received the 2nd highest award for civilians in India, the Padma Vibhushan.
The pressing life’s question
People from all around the world ask Sadhguru for guidance. Many go to his lectures, while many ask about their troubles over the internet. Sadhguru is known for his efforts to answer each and every individual, but today we chose this big question everyone has asked themselves at least once in their lifetime:
Why do bad things happen to good people?
Sadhguru: “Everyone thinks they are a good person. That is the whole problem”
Sadhguru starts off with no holds barred, as you can see. He points out that everyone always considers the “bad person” to be someone else, other than themselves. However, good or bad is a social aspect in essence, because everyone has good or bad qualities, right or wrong, etc…
If we look back, every society has created its own version of right or wrong, and it depended on how and what was necessary for their survival at the time. So, according to Sadhguru, good and bad, or right or wrong, are just a question of our own thinking position.
Existence doesn’t care about these questions. If we are “in tune” with something, it will work for us and we will consider it right and good, if not, it will feel wrong. If we are “bad”, will the air refuse our oxygen? Will the food refuse us nourishment?
“When the creation itself is not making any distinction, who are you to sit in judgment?”
Now, Sadhguru’s point is not to negate that doing some things is wrong and doing other things is right. He is just trying to answer the question “why do “bad” things happen to “good” people?
Everyone, who consider’s themselves good often wonders if “I am good” why is my business not doing good? And, they also might think “my neighbor is evil, why is his business doing good?”
The point is that even if you are good, but you don’t do the things that are right for the business to be successful, you can’t expect to be successful. Your goodness will not help a building from collapsing if you are a terrible engineer and you build one.
The point is that every situation needs to be handled the way it should. Being good or bad is an entirely separate matter and it has its place in the world, but so does everything else. You should be a good person, but you should also be good at what you do in order for it to work.
